Biography
Phil Kullen discovered his love for rhythms and grooves from around the world as a teenager, after winning several school band competitions with his rock band.
At the age of 19, his passion led him to study in the lands of groove: first Havana, Cuba, then New York, Brazil, and Spain, before returning to Berlin, where he completed his studies with a diploma from the Hanns Eisler Academy.
This was followed by tours on major stages and festivals across Europe, with the pop band US5, and with Miss Platnum as the opening act for Die Fantastischen Vier and Peter Fox.
with Chilean superstars Chico Trujillo, and in the studio with Ohrbooten, Jazzanova, and Dota Kehr.
He has also performed on theater stages around the world, touring Taiwan and France with productions by renowned directors Robert Wilson and Jean Bellorini. For several years, he played at the prestigious Berliner Ensemble and with the company Nico and the Navigators in Berlin.
He has also performed at major jazz and classical festivals and concert halls, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Rheingau Festival, Engadin Festival, and in the
Berliner Philharmonie with renowned accordionist Aydar Gaynullin.
After completing his master’s degree in Sound Studies at the University of the Arts (UDK) Berlin, he also produced music for commercial videos for companies such as Gaggenau, Telekom, and Porsche.
He is always in search of new challenges, yet his original love for percussion and grooves, the direct connection, and the joy of performing “live!” with fellow musicians and guests on stage remain at the heart of his artistic work.
